Problems are expensive for European consumers. The study shows that problems in the second-hand car market cost consumers between € 1.9 and € 4.1 billion. Moreover 41% of consumers in the EU experienced problems within the first year of buying a second-hand car and most of these problems – 40% were experienced after one month. On the 8th Consumer Markets Scoreboard second-hand car market fared poorly in terms of consumer trust and satisfaction, accompanied by a high number of problems. Now this study also revealed problems faced by consumers when buying a second-hand car in the EU.
Almost 24,500 consumers who bought a second-hand from a trade source in past three years expressed their opinion is this study. This compilation of consumer views will be useful tool for authorities, traders and consumer organizations to fully understand the problems on the second-hand car market and how to resolve them.
